TP-Link Deco install with ethernet

TP-Link Deco is a smart Mesh system that extends Your WiFi.

It is pretty easy to install but there is no direct information in the install app, Apple or Android, about how to interconnect the Decos with ethernet.

Especially if You must keep the old Router.

Connecting via ethernet is faster and more stable and also necessary if the Decos WiFi can't reach each other.

Another post with DECO:s in router mode.

Using existing router
Here is additional information how to set it up with a ethernet backhaul and if You must keep the existing router. Since it creates a separate network with the first installed Deco unit as a NEW router all the additional Decos must be connected to this first Deco.
Nothing else !!

Access Point Mode(AP)
In AP mode you could connect more than one Deco direct to the router. In our house, due to the ethernet cabling I connected the;
  • main Deco direct to the router
  • second Deco with a cable from the main Deco
  • third Deco with a cable direct from the router
