Since the family is Apple users it started up with HomeKit and an Apple TV as the Home hub.....
Now I'm moving towards the new standard => Matter over Thread.
Internet access
Since several years I'm using a Mobile broadband connection. For the moment I'm using a Nokia FastMile 5G Receiver which is connected to 3 TP-link Deco M9 forming a mesh network with ethernet backhaule. My provider is Comviq and I'm paying 2,5 € per month. No data limit.
Hardware
Raspberry Pi 2 with SD card(RPi2), Bullseye
Raspberry Pi 3 with SD card(RPi3, Trixie
Mac Mini 2018, 8 GB menory with 125 Gb internal disk and 2 Tb external USB disk(MAC), Proxmox
Functions
Virtual machines, KVM/QEMU, and Linux containers, LXC, with Proxmox(PX) => Install info
Linux Server Monitoring Dashboard Using MQTT + Node-RED => Install info
MQTT was installed on a LXC and Node-RED installed in Home Assistant(HA)
To have the same script on the different hardware "sudo" was installed in PX
Zigbee is handled with SONOFF ZBDongle-E and the HA integration
Matter over Thread communicates with HA Connect ZBT-2 and the HA integrations
It schould be said that I have an old Apple TV from 2015 but it just supports Matter over WiFi
