Testing and Hosting Traccar for the Teltonika FTxxxx family GPS Tracker!

Image
After getting the basic SMS alerts working on the Teltonika FTC134, the next step was to test full live tracking. Before setting up my own permanent server, I wanted a quick way to verify that the tracker actually sends TCP telemetry over cellular. Here is how I went from testing on Traccar’s public demo server to deploying a local self-hosted Traccar instance on Proxmox with port forwarding. Initial Test with Traccar Demo Server To verify telemetry without worrying about router rules or local firewall setups, I started with Traccar's public demo platform. Created an account on Demo Server 3 ( demo3.traccar.org / IP: 188.245.151.94 ). Added the FTC134 device inside the web interface using its unique IMEI. Configured the FTC134 tracker via TCT or SMS to point to the demo server: Domain / IP: 188.245.151.94 Port: 5027 (Standard port for Teltonika protocol) Data Protocol: TCP Encryption: None (Note: Teltonika devices use port 5027 on Traccar servers. If you use a diffe...

Teltonika FTxxx series GPS tracker, setup and configuration with TCT !

When looking for a reliable tracking and security solution for our boat, I wanted something robust with professional-grade capabilities rather than basic consumer gadgets. Teltonika’s hardware ecosystem caught my eye, and for this project, I opted for the  FTC134  tracker. As usual with industrial or specialized hardware, the online documentation is massive and split across various wiki pages. To save you some time hunting through forums, here is a quick walkthrough of how I got mine up and running, connected it via Proxmox, and set up basic input triggers and arming logic.

Bredbandskollen, internet speedtest, integrating with Home Assistant via MQTT Discovery

Image
In my earlier posts about Lightweight DIY Linux Server Monitoring I used a small Bash script and MQTT Auto-Discovery to get server metrics into Home Assistant (HA) without any manual sensor setup. The same idea works very well for something else I wanted to keep an eye on: the speed of my internet connection. This time the data source is  the command line client for Bredbandskollen. It measures download, upload and latency against a nearby test server, and prints the result as a single line of text, perfect for a script. The script runs on my Proxmox host , publishes the result to the Mosquitto broker, and HA creates a device with all the sensors by itself.
