HomeKit, Trådfri and Gledopto RGB

I bought the Gledopto RGB+CCT LED controller(GO), so I could use RGB LED strips, not just the IKEA ones.

There were some IF:s, which will be scrutinized below, but it worked.

Other HomeKit posts on this Blogg

The IF list;
  • The controller was not labelled "Zigbee Light Link Compatible" but worked anyway
  • The only way I could "pair" GO with the Trådfri system was via the Trådfri Gateway(TG).
  • GO didn't appear in Apple Home app as the Trådfri lamps did
  • It was some problems to pair GO with the Trådfri system
Start to connect the LED strip to the GO and then the 12/24 VDC from the power supply. (I even tried with halogen lamps which worked).

The strip should be lit.

If You really will want to be "safe", reset the GO according to the instructions. After an off/on cycle, wait until the LED is lit before You turn it off again.

Please check out som findings, regarding pairing, done by "Viking" in the comments. Compiled below Remarks.

The "pairing" was not really distinct but after some attempts it worked. Keep the GO close to the TG and try with;
  • The pairing knob on the gateway. Press it att least 10 seconds, and the device will appear in TA.
or
  • With the Trådfri app(TA) opened, switch off the GO and then on again, and then TG will auto detect GO.
In TA it then will appear as "Disconnected Devices", tap and move it to a "Room".

Then You can adjust the colors using TA.

If it is important that GO shall appear in the Apple Home App You can use the Homebridge solution with the Trådfri plugin. Then You also can change the colors in Home App !

The Homebridge log will then show You something like this

Remarks

"Viking" didn't succeed with my pairing instruction so he paired the GO with an IKEA on/off switch - as a light bulb. Quote "That was successful and I can now see the GO both in the IKEA App and in Home Assistant. And the control in HA includes RGB + Dimm + on/off"

  1. Can you please explain EXACTLY how you paired the GO with the Tradfri GW (Step-by-step) ?

    1. Sorry it wasn't clear ! But as said, open the Trådfri app and test with either pressing the "Pairing" knob on Trådfri Gateway OR disconnect and then reconnect the power to the Gledopto controller and it will appear in the app.

  2. Thanks for replying. But there is no pairing knob on the Gateway.
And no device appears automatically in the IKEA App.
You have to select adding either a controlling device, or a controlled device.
I have tried both, but to no avail.
That's why I ask ; EXACTLY (Step-by-step) how is it done?

    1. For clarity i added a picture of the TG with the pairing knob/button. There is no more steps since the TA detects the GO automagic. (If it works as it should)

  3. Hi, and thanks for your reply. According the IKEA documentation, that switch is a security switch. No further details about its function or how to use it is given anywhere. See this picture: https://i.imgur.com/I2UhfGJ.png

    1. Absolutely so, because IKEA don't use the button cause the pairing, for their devices, should be done via an IKEA controller. On the other hand the symbol is the same as on any controller for the pairing scene, and it worked for me. I think the best way for You is to use the Reddit community where Gledopto also states that their hardware is compatible with Trådfri. https://www.reddit.com/r/Gledopto/ Please inform if You get some nice answers that will work for any combination of software versions.

  4. HI, I do follow the discussion on Reddit. But I'm not willing to let you "off the hook" just yet :-)
From what you say, it seems you expect me to pair the GO with the TG directly - using the pair-button. I have two questions:
    1. If it really can be paired using the pairing button on the TG, then why not just use the App instead?
    2. Why not just pair the GO using an IKEA controlling device just as if it was a regular bulb?

    1. :-) God questions, I got the setup from somewhere and as said in the beginning of the post, I could just pair GO direct with TG .........

  5. Aha - you got it from somewhere.... So you never tried it yourself?

    1. Jep, got the setup from somewhere, but confirmed with my gear. All the posts on this site is done in "real life". The setup documentation and log, at the end, is from that installation. It's also said in the post that the pairing wasn't very distinct ......

  6. OK, so I paired the GO to the IKEA on/off switch - as a light bulb.
That was successful and I can now see the GO both in the IKEA App and in Home Assistant. And the control in HA include RGB + Dimm + on/off.
But it implies that what I did, was very different from what you did. Cause I never managed to pair it directly with the HUB.

  7. So, do I need homebridge to get the GO in Home app with Vikings solution?

    1. I do not recall having said anything about "homebridge" - in fact, I don't even know what it is. (And what is "Home App" ?)

    2. Urb ! With the softwares versions used in 2019-01, the GO didn't appear in the Home app, so yes You need Homebridge. A simple version is found here https://pysselilivet.blogspot.com/2019/09/homebridge-made-simple-hoobs.html

    3. Pyssel i livet: thanks!
Viking: Homebridge makes it appear on the Apple "Home" app ("Hem" in Swedish). My question was if I didnt need to bother with homebridge? Now I realize that you mean Home Assistand by HA and not Home App. Sorry.

  8. Do you have any recommendations for 5m led strip RGB+CCT avaliable in Sweden to use with the GO? Got it connected without any issues to Apple Home app, thanks!
And do you happen to know if it is possible to use the Aqara temperature sensors without the Aqara Hub with the GO?

    1. Sorry, no recommendations. GO is a LED controller so can't do the job. If You want to mix different devices I recommend a zigbee controller, for example https://www.kjell.com/se/produkter/el-verktyg/smarta-hem/zigbee/raspbee-zigbee-controller-for-raspberry-pi-p50888 together with a Raspberry and the software Homebridge.
