OpenPlotter V2, NMEA or SignalK data FROM file

newer post on the same subject !!

The easiest way to test Your OpenPlotter, OpenCPN or SignalK(SK) applications is to use the supplied sample files in SK.

Another way is to capture Your own data from a sailing trip, which is described here. Then You can use them instead of the supplied sample files.
The two sample files in SK are
  • plaka.log a NMEA 0183(N1) file
  • aava-n2k.data a NMEA 2000(N2) file
Different SK versions have had the files in different locations so the easiest way to find their paths is with

sudo find / -name "plaka.log" or sudo find / -name "aava-n2k.data"

for the N1 file You maybe will get

/usr/lib/node_modules/signalk-server/samples/plaka.log

so copy that and setup, in the SK admin GUI, a connection type "File share" according to the picture. Paste the file path in the "File name" box.

Restart the SK server and open Freeboard SK to check Your sailing in the south of Finland.

When the file ends, it will restart from the beginning again.

As You see in the dropdown list at "Data Type" there are several formats to choose from.
