Apple HomeKit doing Matter upgrade with Hombridge

Matter is the the new standard making your smart home devices talking to each other and some Apple Home hubs can be updated.

There is a nice article from "The Verge" which explains it all.

Using Homebridge(HB) it could be nice to know what happens when you upgrade your HomeKit hub to the new standard so his post will just give some quick tips

Here is a support article from Apple and please note that if you upgrade you will not be able to use an iPad as a Home hub anymore.

Upgrading
Again referring to a "The Verge" article here is the more extended version of how the upgrade is done.

Nice to know is that if you have old gear it's possible that these products will not be able to handle HomeKit anymore. In my case it was an old iPad and a Mac Book Air(2011), running Ventura

Homebridge impact
I have been running HB for several years with the same setup and before the Home hub update, an Apple TV, I just upgraded the HB server and all plugins to their latest versions.

Then I did a backup !!

Glad to say the Home Kit upgrade did very well and everything worked as before in the HB server.
